About the Chief Procurement Officer -- John Gillespie

John Gillespie

John Gillespie was appointed Chief Procurement Officer for the City of Houston in February 2016.

Under direction of the Chief Business Officer, the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) leads day-to-day sourcing and procurement activities for the City of Houston. As CPO, John is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of supply chain strategies and solutions that enable the city to secure its products, services, equipment and construction needs in the most efficient and effective manner.

Prior to joining the City of Houston, John served in senior supply chain leadership roles for Cameron International, El Paso Corporation, U.T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Enron Corp. Prior to that John served Browning-Ferris Industries in a variety of controllership capacities, including assistant corporate controller. John began his professional career with Waukesha Pearce Industries where he served in the variety of accounting roles.

A native of Euclid Ohio, John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Akron, Oho. John and his wife Brenda have been married for 30 years and have three grown children. When not working, John enjoys traveling, reading and volunteering at his local parish church.
