ABOUT NIGP:

The National Institute of Government Purchasing, Inc. (NIGP) is a national, membership-based non-profit organization providing support to professionals in the public sector purchasing profession. NIGP provides its members with many services, including education, professional networking, research, and technical assistance. Click here to login to the NIGP Living Code. Organized in 1944, NIGP is an international not-for-profit educational and technical organization of public purchasing agencies. The Institute is composed of 70 affiliate chapters and more than 2,100 agency members representing federal, state, provincial and local government levels throughout the United States and Canada. These agencies represent over 12,000 individuals serving the public procurement community.

COMMODITY CODES:

The NIGP Commodity Codes were developed by the National Institute of Government Purchasing to bring efficiency to automated purchasing. Since 1983 the NIGP Code has been adopted by more than 1,400 government users and continues to grow. Click here to view the material records used by the City of Houston.
